BRITISH companies run the risk of being overtaken by foreign competitors unless they
invest more in staff development, according to Investors in People.
The group's chief executive, Mary Chapman, yesterday welcomed a report by the Institute for Employment Studies which shows that more than 18,000 organisations in Britain now meet its standard for staff development. The number of companies achieving this standard has doubled in the past year, and now accounts for almost a quarter of the country's workforce.
"Companies are in danger of finding their competitors building up a substantial advantage that they will find hard to overturn if they don't start to focus on their best asset-their people-sooner rather than later," said Investors in People.
